Hoang Truong
Post-Baccalaureate Assistant Teaching Professor

Hoang Truong received his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. He earned his MS in Computer Science and BS (Cum Laude) in Electrical Engineering at KAIST, Korea. He brings 10 years of experience in teaching, research, and developing embedded systems and wearable sensing systems, focusing on interdisciplinary research, system design, machine learning, and data science. He combines the perspectives of an educator, a researcher, and an engineer to show the students the connection between what they learn and real-world applications; and to inspire them to apply the CS knowledge to their interdisciplinary expertise domain.

Why do you teach online for the Post-Bacc program?

I love to bring knowledge to everyone, who is passionate about having Computer Science in their career paths, and the Post-Bacc program is the key to fulfilling my enthusiasm. Our online courses are accessible to people from different expertise domains, backgrounds, and cultures, not just on-campus CS-major students. I am happy to see my students (full-time parents, musicians, biologists, pathologists, etc.) apply CS in their expertise domains, prepare for the workforce, and succeed in their future career paths.

What do you like to do outside of CU?

I spend my spare time building various DIY sensors (e.g., breath monitoring cards for my kids or temperature sensors for mice brains) and building powerful (and colorful) PCs.
