Undergraduate ChBE Ambassador Position

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (ChBE) seeks undergraduate students to serve as Ambassadors who will provide regular feedback on the experience in our degree programs. The annual cohort of ChBE Ambassadors aims to include four ambassadors from each year (first year, sophomore, junior, senior), two of whom are in the CBEN/BIEN degree program and two of whom are in the CHEN degree program.

ChBE Ambassadors will take part in mandatory monthly meetings with faculty mentors – Assistant Teaching Professors Trevor Franklin and Katie O’Harra – according to the following schedule:

  • Friday, Sept 18, 2026 – 3 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 16, 2026 – 3 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 13, 2026 – 3 p.m.
  • Friday, Jan. 29, 2027 – 3 p.m.
  • Friday, Mar. 5, 2027 – 3 p.m.
  • Friday, Apr. 9, 2027 – 3 p.m.

These meetings will focus on enhancing educational experiences within the department, will occasionally involve brainstorming for new department initiatives, and will extend to volunteering opportunities at department events. 

Becoming a ChBE Ambassador is a great way to get to know professors, advocate for the needs of the undergraduate community, bolster your skills in scientific communication, share what is special about this ChBE department to the world beyond CU, and earn money.

Pay for Ambassador position: $16.82/hr

Application Deadline: Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026. 
Notification of Acceptance: Monday, Sept. 14, 2026 
First Ambassadors Meeting: Friday, Sept. 18, 2026

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate students majoring in CHEN, BIEN, or CBEN
  • Ability to attend all of the above scheduled meeting dates/times, missing no more than 1 per semester.
  • Ability and willingness to sign up as a volunteer for at least 2 department programs (e.g., admitted student information sessions, monthly donut socials, etc.). Sign-ups will take place at the first meeting in September.

  • A statement on why you wish to be an Ambassador, including any outreach or community-building initiatives you would like to see in ChBE (1-2 paragraphs is sufficient). Please include your year at CU in the statement.

  • A statement confirming you are available for the meeting dates/times listed above and willing to volunteer at 2 or more department events.
