Professor Ryan Hayward comes to CU from the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, where he has been a leading researcher of mechanical instabilities of soft materials, active polymer materials and interfaces and the self-assembly of polymer and particle-based nanostructures since 2006. His research group is primarily interested in designing responsive, active and autonomous materials and in customizing their structure and functionality through frustrated self-assembly. Hayward earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from UC Santa Barbara in 2004.
Professor Hayward will join the department in August 2020.
