Deb RenshawAs the Senior Undergraduate Advisor for the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Deb Renshaw always puts the students first. Helping chemical and biological engineering students navigate their majors and graduate on time takes dedication and expert knowledge of programs and degree requirements.

This past semester, the College of Engineering and Applied Science recognized Renshaw for her commitment to student success, naming her the Outstanding Undergraduate Staff Advisor for 2019. The recognition is all the more significant because it is the students themselves who submit the nominations.

“I was totally surprised and honored,” Renshaw said. “It really felt good to get recognition from the students.”

The award goes to advisors and faculty who go above and beyond in helping and guiding students through their undergraduate experience. Multiple students nominated Renshaw for the award this semester.

“When it comes to helping students, Deb goes above and beyond in every conceivable way she can,” said senior instructor and Associate Chair Wendy Young. “She doesn’t just attend events like graduation, she helps set up and plays drums with her band during the ceremony. She’s not just an academic advisor, she’s a life coach working around the clock because she cares so much.”
