John Edem Ecklu is a PhD engaged in research that applies climate financing to address water insecurity, this includes assessing a climate-financed safe water program in East Africa. John is advised by Dr. Evan Thomas. He completed his Civil Engineering undergraduate degree at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. For his undergraduate thesis, John examined access to water and cost implications for a rural town.

He joins CU with four years of experience in the water and sanitation sector having worked as a project engineer at TREND Group, a WASH consultancy firm in Ghana. There he worked on a myriad of projects across the different regions in Ghana collaborating with various local agencies and international organizations such as UNICEF. Some projects included designing and supervising the construction of sustainable WASH infrastructure for schools in low-income urban communities and providing technical support to rural communities to increase their sanitation coverage.

He is passionate about providing innovative WASH solutions that look beyond just providing infrastructure and have a sustained impact in developing countries. John also loves to get outdoors and ride his bike.
