There was no lecture on Wednesday September 13.

The first midterm was on Wednesday October 11.

The second midterm is going to be held in class Wednesday November 15.

Text: Atkinson, An Introduction to Numerical Analysis. Second Edition

Course grading: Although details may be changed, grades will be based on a total course score that likely will be made up of HW 15% (with lowest homework score discarded), each Midterm 20% and Final 45%.

Homeworks

Homework will typically be posted each Wednesday, and be due the following Wednesday. If cases arise when tedious but conceptually straightforward calculus or algebra steps become needed, the use of Mathematica is encouraged (as long as it is made clear how you could have proceeded without it).

Homework 1 is due in class Friday September 15. Solutions are posted on D2L.

Homework 2 is due in class Wednesday September 27.

Homework 3 is due in class Wednesday October 4.

Homework 4 is due in class Wednesday October 18.

Homework 5 is due in class Wednesday October 25.

Homework 6 is due in class Wednesday November 1.

Homework 7 is due in class Friday November 10.

Homework 8 is due in class Monday December 4.

Homework 9 is due in class Monday December 11.

Exams

Two midterm exams will be held in class. The first will be on Wednesday October 11, covering linear and nonlinear solvers. The second will be on Wednesday November 15, covering interpolation and approximation. The final exam will be held Sunday December 17, 7:30-10:00pm.
