Residence Hall Rules

The FOM states that all pilots must fly at least 200ft away from an active residence hall. See Section 2.10.4 for more information. Below is more information on active residence hall times and campus notification procedures.

Summer Break | May 7 - August 21, 2025

  • All residence halls will remain open during summer break. All campus notification procedures apply.

Fall Break | Nov. 24 – Nov. 28, 2025

  • All residence halls will remain open for fall break. All campus notification procedures apply.

Winter Break | Dec. 13, 2025 – Jan. 6, 2026

  • All residence halls close at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13. All students will be vacated by that time.

Exceptions:

The following residence halls will remain occupied and campus procedures must be followed. 

  • Bear Creek,
  • Weber Hall
  • Reed Hall

Spring Break | March 16-20, 2026

  • All residence halls will remain open for spring break. All campus notification procedures apply.

If you have determined that your flight must take place within 200ft of an active residence hall, please email dps_flightops@colorado.edu, so that we can work with you to follow all required campus notification procedures. 

 

To fly within 200ft of an active residence, you must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Hold current CU COA Certification (this does not include AC91-57C or Part 107 certifications).
  • Obtain On-Campus Certification.
  • Complete all required BFRs (biannual flight reviews).
  • Conduct currency flights off campus before flying on-campus.
  • Receive on-campus flight approval via email.
  • Notify all residents of the time and location of flight.
