About Us
A Message from the Vice Chancellor for Public Safety

At the University of Colorado Boulder, safety is a top priority, and the Division of Public Safety (DPS) takes its responsibility to protect the campus seriously. Our work is guided by trust, empathy, equity, response excellence, and accountability—values that shape how we serve the university community each day.
DPS advances campus safety through an integrated public safety model that brings together community policing, operational excellence, physical security, emerging technology, drones, and innovative tools that support prevention, preparedness, and effective response. By aligning people, training, and modern capabilities, we strengthen our ability to protect campus while remaining adaptable in an evolving safety landscape.
At the same time, we recognize that safety cannot be achieved by any single division alone. Even with strong tools, training, and professional response, lasting safety is a shared responsibility. This understanding drives our commitment to partnering with students, faculty, staff, and our surrounding community to build strong relationships, promote awareness of safety procedures, encourage open communication, and foster a culture of mutual respect—on and off campus. We listen, engage, educate, and invite the campus community to work alongside us in this shared effort.
Through our integrated public safety model, collaboration, and education, we strive to create an environment where the entire CU Boulder community can learn, work, and thrive.
Thank you for being part of the CU Boulder community and for your shared commitment to a safe, inclusive, and welcoming campus.
Sincerely,
Jack Briggs
Interim Vice Chancellor for Public Safety
