ENVS assistant professor, Cassandra Brooks, gives inaugural C-SEF seminar
The Center for Social and Environmental Futures (C-SEF) launched earlier this year, led by ENVS assistant professor, Matt Burgess. Located within the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES), the mission of C-SEF is to "conduct cutting-edge research, education, and outreach activities focused on human dimensions of environmental problems, with specific emphases on two broad areas, focusing on long-term and short-term futures, respectively."
C-SEF held their inaugural seminar event last night, "Ocean Legacy: Inspiring marine conservation in the Ross Sea, Antarctica and beyond." ENVS assistant professor, Cassandra Brooks, and ocean advocate and photographer, John Weller talked about their work to protect the Ross Sea in the Southern Ocean around Antarctica. C-SEF will be hosting more talks through their seminar series, the next to be held on October 21.
