This college policy is intended to ensure that quality in offered courses remains high and that faculty have time to remain current in both their subject area and technology, adequate time to meet with individual students, and time to grade substantive written work.

Guidelines
Full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty may teach one additional course per semester above the standard teaching expectation for their department, including courses taught on all CU campuses and through Continuing Education with one exception.* Full-time faculty members holding Chair/Director and Associate Chair/Director appointments are not eligible for overloads.
*Self-paced courses taught thorugh Continuing Education do not count against teaching limits.
Grant Funded Course Buy-Outs
Faculty using grant funds to buy-out of a course may not be paid for overloads.
Requesting an Additional Job for Tenured or Tenure-Track Faculty
- Faculty Member completes Courses Agreed to Teach Grid and submits to Unit.
- Unit submits the following to Faculty Affairs Coordinator for review via email at cas-faculty@colorado.edu:
- Draft offer letter reviewed by Faculty Affairs Coordinator.
- Once approved by Faculty Affairs Coordinator, approved offer letter is routed by Faculty Affairs Coordinator with CC to the following via DocuSign:
- Unit
- Human Resources Service Center
- Faculty Affairs Coordinator downloads completed letter to Personnel File.
- Appointment entered in HCM (Human Resources software) by the Campus Human Resources Service Center.
- If any changes to the offer letter are needed after approval, fill out an addendum form.
