Richard Schaden

Richard F. Schaden is an aeronautical engineer, attorney, and pilot with a distinguished career spanning five decades in aviation and public interest law, having litigated over 400 aviation cases. Drawing on his early work as a flight test engineer at Boeing and a jet engine project engineer at Continental Aviation, Richard discovered early in his career that he could have a greater impact on aviation safety in the courtroom than in corporate engineering departments.

An active pilot, Richard holds an Air Transport Pilot certificate along with several jet type ratings and a commercial seaplane rating.

In addition to his trial work, Richard co-founded Quiznos and Smashburger, as well as aerospace startups Escape Dynamics and Beyond Aviation.

A longtime supporter of the University of Colorado, he established the Schaden Chair in Experiential Learning at CU Law and developed an interdisciplinary course taught at both the Law and Engineering schools.
