BioCell Habitats
Though they may look like inconspicuous black boxes, BioCell Habitats have several functions:
- Transportation. They allow biological samples to be easily transported to, within, and from the ISS.
- Containment. They effectively contain biological liquids and help prevent spills.
- Structural. They protect fragile membranes from damage due to handling.
- Gas Exchange. They control the gas environment of the cell culture by allowing gas exchange with the outer cabin through holes in the lid (if desired) or by providing a sealed atmosphere for the culture (if desired).
