The Office of Top Scholarships invites you to the University of Colorado Astronaut Scholarship Award event in honor of the 2021 Astronaut Scholar Spencer Hurt. Astronaut Joe Tanner will host a space lecture and award Spencer with his Astronaut Scholarship. This event is open to all.

Spencer Hurt is an astronomy student, not AES, but of course we all know retired senior instructor Joe Tanner!

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an academic competition to cultivate student presentation and science communication skills. Doctoral students are challenged to describe their research within three minutes to a general audience.

Register now for the chance to compete in the Graduate School’s annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. All registrants will be invited to join our fall workshops that include public speaking seminars and practice sessions to help you learn the art of describing your research in three minutes.

Following the fall workshops, you’ll have the opportunity to compete in the semi-final competition in January 2022, where ten contestants will be selected to compete in the final round in February with the chance to win research prize money: winner, $1,500; runner-up, $750; and the people’s choice winner, $500. 

CU Boulder doctoral candidates admitted to candidacy before January 1, 2022 are invited to participate in the 3MT competition. Register for the 3MT competition by Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m.

The new Quantum Engineering Initiative (QEI) will build and expand internal efforts in quantum research while also strengthening connections to local and regional partners. The initiative is a significant and strategic investment into translational quantum engineering research – especially in quantum sensing, which has been a strength in the college for years. QEI specifically includes educational components, faculty hiring efforts, and dedicated lab space for collaboration with partners both on and off CU Boulder’s campus.

Join the Research & Innovation Office at noon on Nov. 10 via Zoom for a discussion about their upcoming seed grant program. Designed to catalyze new areas of research, scholarship and creative work, the program awards nearly $1 million annually to Boulder faculty across all disciplines. At this event, RIO will convene a panel of previous recipients to talk about the process and attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions. Register online using your IdentiKey email.
