The Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder is welcoming five new faculty members for the 2022-2023 academic year. Meet the team and see why we're excited about these talented new hires:

Assistant Teaching Professor Jeff Glusman

Jeff Glusman is joining the Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences as a new assistant teaching professor. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, an MS in Aeronautics & Astronautics from the University of Washington and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from CU Boulder.

Associate Teaching Professor Erik Knudsen

Erik Knudsen is a new associate teaching professor in the Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences. He joins the department following industry work at Northrup Grumman, the Naval Research Laboratory, and service as a professor at George Mason University, where he helped build up their mechanical engineering department.

Lecturer Chris Koehler

Christopher Koehler is a new lecturer in the Ann and H.J Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences, but he is no stranger to CU Boulder. Prior to joining Smead Aerospace, he served as the longtime director of NASA's Colorado Space Grant Consortium, located on campus, and has taught courses in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. This year, he stepped back from Space Grant and is taking an official role in Smead Aerospace.

Assistant Professor Maryam Shakiba

Maryam Shakiba is joining the Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences as an assistant professor. Before joining CU Boulder, she was an assistant professor at Virginia Tech, where she was recognized with an AFOSR Young Investigator Program (YIP) award, and three NSF awards, including the NSF CAREER award.

Visiting Faculty Member Yang Wang

Yang Wang is joining the Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences as a Visiting Faculty Member through a unique, three-year appointment created jointly with Smead Aerospace, Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences (APS), and Physics departments as well as the National Solar Observatory (NSO).
