Undergraduate theatre majors can pursue a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree or a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree with a concentration in Acting, Design/Technology, or Musical Theatre. All students enter the program as BA students, with the exception of students pursuing a BFA with a Musical Theatre concentration.

BA in Theatre

The BA program in theatre is a broad-based program of theatre practice and study for the student seeking a foundational theatre education rather than specializing in a single track.

BFA in Theatre

The BFA degree concentrations in theatre offer pre-professional training to a limited number of highly motivated and talented students aiming at professional careers. The BFA student can pursue one of three concentration areas: Acting, Design/Technology/Management, or Musical Theatre.

Admissions

All prospective students will apply to CU first as a BA in Theatre. Students may apply for a BFA concentration after acceptance, if desired (Musical Theatre excepted*).

  • Admission to a BFA concentration is based on talent, academic record, motivation, auditions and/or interviews
  • Interested students should identify themselves to their desired program as early as possible
  • Admission is limited not only in terms of student capacity, but also to ensure the type of individual attention necessary for effective training
  • A student may apply to all three areas of concentration, but can only be admitted to one
  • Counseling by faculty in advance is recommended
  • *Musical Theatre auditions happen simulateously with application to CU. See the Musical Theatre pages for details
