Welcome to the jazz bass studio at the University of Colorado Boulder College of Music!
Bijoux Barbosa is the jazz bass instructor at our college working with students on sound production and projection, time/feel, intonation, technique, scales, posture, jazz repertoire, improvisation, soloing concepts, styles and other important topics—from history of the instrument to jazz history. These lessons are designed to provide students the tools, knowledge and vision toward becoming a successful musician.
Jazz bass students receive double bass lessons in the classical area as well as in the award-winning CU Boulder Jazz Studies Program, recognized 15 times in the past decade by DownBeat magazine for excellence in improvisation, arranging, composition and ensemble performance.
Bijoux Barbosa
Eduardo “Bijoux” Barbosa provides jazz studies double bassists with excellent training in jazz and latin styles. Barbosa’s career as a bass guitarist and double bassist began in his native Brazil and continued for six years in Caracas, Venezuela, where he worked with many well-known artists. Since arriving in Denver in 1997, Barbosa has established himself as one of the most sought-after bassists in Colorado. He is one of the top studio musicians in Colorado and can be heard on over 300 recordings in jazz, folk, bluegrass, pop, country, blues, Brazilian, rock, fusion and big band. Barbosa has performed with a wide array of stars including Herbie Mann, Dave Grusin, Don Grusin, Bryan Lynch, Russell Ferrante, Chuck Loab, Gerald Albright and Lee Ritenour. MORE
