Bio
Savannah is originally from South Carolina, where she pursued her undergraduate degree at Clemson University. After graduation, she gained her rock climbing guiding credentials and moved to Maine, where she guided in Acadia National Park. Her love of the tropics and conservation biology brought her back to the research and environmental studies space. She has since worked in Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica, Brazil, and across the western United States. Before beginning her PhD, she was running a bird guiding business out of Fort Collins, Colorado, and was working as a forest and fire ecological monitoring specialist at the Colorado Forest Restoration Institute, based at Colorado State University.
Research Interests
Savannah's research interests are focused on conservation biology, agroecology, forest management, and rural livelihood sustainability. Her work has taken her across Central and South America, as well as the western United States. She uses a combination of field-based and remote methods to answer her research questions.
