The Department of Environmental Studies (ENVS) called on its Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) to develop a strategic plan that articulates the broadly convergent and shared values as well as aspirations of the ENVS community at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder).
This document is the final product of the work of the SPC Committee that also involved opportunities for ENVS faculty, staff and student input during the 18-month process. Several ENVS community town halls also provided forums for discussions and further development of the ENVS vision, mission, strategic imperatives and action items (captured below).
This strategic plan is a living document that will be implemented, utilized and updated so that it purposefully informs actions, decisions and investments in ENVS going forward. Successful strategy going forward embodies (1) clear, long-term goals, (2) profound understanding of the external environment, (3) astute appraisal of internal resources and capabilities, and (4) effective implementation.
ENVS Support to Achieve Results
The Department of Environmental Studies’ (ENVS) successes in the coming years will be contingent upon our ability to integrate the vision, mission, strategic imperatives and action items into our daily, weekly and monthly activities (see Appendix III: SMART Criteria for KPIs). The ENVS Chair – in partnership with ENVS leadership, staff, advisors, students and other faculty – will lead and be responsible for implementation. The ENVS Chair will transparently work with the ENVS community to advance these ENVS goals and objectives, and will allocate support and resources to achieve measurable results.
This document is a living plan. This plan will be further developed as we make progress toward our stated actions, strategic imperatives, mission and vision. The execution of this plan may be influenced in response to our changing understanding, circumstances, contexts and opportunities. We will consistently monitor progress toward our ENVS goals and objectives and regularly share our progress towards the strategic intents in this plan.
Successful implementation of our completed 2022 ENVS Strategic Plan will lead to a work environment in which our research, practices, teaching and mentoring excellence is matched by our excellent inclusive culture and resilient community.
