About the Campos Student Center
The Campos Student Center, part of the College of Engineering and Applied Science at CU Boulder, is dedicated to fostering community and supporting student success in engineering. The center creates a welcoming and inclusive environment for students of all backgrounds through academic support, mentoring, and leadership development opportunities.
The Campos Student Center is seeking Tutors to support academic success in engineering and applied science disciplines. This role emphasizes leadership, collaboration with faculty, and high-quality tutoring support in a dynamic learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide walk-in and drop-in tutoring support to students
Facilitate group study sessions and exam preparation workshops
Mentor and support fellow tutors
Collaborate with faculty to enhance tutoring strategies
Assist students with coursework, problem-solving, and study strategies
Participate in training, team meetings, and tutor recruitment efforts
Minimum Qualifications
- CU Boulder undergraduate with GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Completed at least one semester in the College of Engineering & Applied Science
- Strong competency in Calculus (required)
- Ability to effectively facilitate walk-in and drop-in tutoring
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse student populations
Preferred Qualifications
- GPA of 3.5 or higher
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills
- Prior tutoring, mentoring, or leadership experience
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Compensation & Schedule
- $18.75 per hour with pro-rated sick leave
- 7–10 hours per week with flexible scheduling (including some evenings)
- Minimum two-semester commitment; continued employment based on performance

Step 1: Video Tutorial Submission
Applicants are required to submit a 7-minute video tutorial demonstrating their ability to teach a core concept.
Instructions:
- Record a 7-minute video explaining how to solve the following problem:
[Insert Calculus/Engineering problem here] - Clearly walk through your problem-solving process step-by-step
- Emphasize how you would explain the concept to a peer student
- Ensure your work is clearly visible (e.g., paper, tablet, or whiteboard) and your audio is easy to understand
- Videos may be recorded using a phone, tablet, or computer
Submission Format:
- Submit a shareable video link (e.g., Google Drive, YouTube unlisted, or similar platform)
- Acceptable formats include common video types such as MP4 or MOV
- No file conversion is required—please prioritize clarity and accessibility
Evaluation Criteria:
- Conceptual understanding and accuracy
- Ability to explain complex ideas clearly
- Engagement and teaching approach
- Organization and structure of explanation
Step 2: In-Person Interview (Soft Skills Focus)
Selected candidates will be invited to participate in a 30-minute in-person interview.

This interview will focus on your interpersonal and leadership skills, including:
- Communication and approachability
- Ability to support students from diverse backgrounds
- Problem-solving in tutoring scenarios
- Collaboration and teamwork
- Leadership and initiative
How to Prepare:
- Be ready to discuss past experiences working with peers, teams, or in leadership roles
- Reflect on how you handle challenging learning situations or student interactions
- Consider how you create an inclusive and supportive learning environment
- Come prepared with questions about the role and the Campos Student Center
