The BOLD Center is a popular spot - for good reason - for many to get some studying done, catch up with peers or attend a student society meeting. 

As a reminder, we ask for all those using our space to: 

• Clean up any trash after yourself 
• Wipe surfaces down after use
• Put away all seats and tables and arrange the rooms back as you left it

CU Boulder’s Women of Aeronautics and Astronautics (CU WoAA) will be hosting their first-ever conference for CU students on Saturday, October 7th, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Aerospace Engineering Science Building. All genders are welcome!

This conference is intended to open up the doors for students to:

• Professional Growth and Networking Strategies
• Technical Workshops
• Academic Growth Tips and Tricks
• Diversity and Inclusion

Students will grow professionally, academically, and technically through workshops, discussions, and networking events!

Need volunteer hours? If you are a BOLD or GoldShirt member, this is a great way to get involved with WoAA's conference. Volunteers should ideally be available for the entirety of the conference, but if you can only participate for a specific time slot, please specify in the volunteer form.

Most volunteers will range from 1-4 jobs throughout the day, including helping set up breakfast and lunch, check in, setting up tables for booths, room finders and cleaning up at the end of the day. Anytime volunteers are not working, you are free to sit in on a panel or talk.

The CU Boulder Bioastronautics Research Group, part of the Aerospace Engineering Department, is recruiting subjects to participate in an astronaut training study using virtual reality.

Subjects will be trained on one of three tasks: an entry-descent landing scenario, a rover driving scenario, or a habitat maintenance scenario. Subjects will complete anywhere from three to eight sessions, with the first session taking up to 2.5 hours and the following sessions taking one hour each.

All subjects between the ages of 18 and 65 are invited to email to learn more. Any questions about the study can be directed to Dr. Allison Anderson.  

NREL is hosting an interactive and exciting workshop for students to learn about NREL, its many interesting projects and career paths that working at a national lab can offer.

Thinking about what you are going to do after graduation? Does the idea of living and volunteering in a community abroad excite you? 

Serving in the Peace Corps is a great way to immerse yourself in a new culture, learn a new language, and make a lasting impact. Learn about the six service sectors and how to gain the skills and experience needed to qualify for Peace Corps service.

Students planning a career in public service are invited to apply for the Truman Scholarship. The Truman Foundation is seeking juniors with exceptional leadership potential committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education, or other public service. This prestigious scholarship provides leadership training, mentorship and up to $30,000 for public-service related graduate study. 

Only juniors may apply, but sophomores can join to improve their chances on Thurs., Sept. 28 at 4:00 p.m. by Zoom. Contact viles@colorado.edu for more information about these scholarships and others.

Take a study break and join Health & Wellness for learning and discussion. This series offers concrete skills and information about topics that are relevant to healthy leadership. Sessions will be held on Mondays (Oct. 2nd, 9th, 16th) from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Wardenburg Health Center. 

Topics include: (1) Skills for Impactful Conversations (2) Mental Health: Taking Care of Yourself and Supporting Others, and (3) Self-Care for Leaders.

You can sign up for any or all sessions. Those attending all three sessions will receive a non-degree certificate of completion.

Join the Men of Excellence as we kick off the year with a fun Challenge Course located at Williams Village, which is an outdoor experience that includes games, team activities, low elements, and high elements on Tues., Sept. 26th from 4:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This is a fun way to meet men of color on campus through group-oriented activities that foster leadership, personal awareness, communication, and teamwork. 

All costs are covered, and food is provided for the first 25 students and 5 faculty or staff members who sign up using the link here. Contact Tony Price, Director, Recreation Services with any questions. 

The Engineering Excellence Fund (EEF) is currently recruiting up to two undergraduate students and up to two graduate students to participate on the committee to start this semester (fall 2023). The application deadline is until Tues., Oct. 3rd. Applicants are encouraged to submit applications early, as interviews will be conducted as applications are received.

The EEF is a committee of students who award funding for student, staff, and faculty projects of varying scopes and amounts. Additionally, non-voting faculty advisers participate in discussions and provide insight and guidance to the students on the committee. The Student Professional Development program, through a DEI Impact grant, will support 45 engineering students from BOLD Center student societies, with high-financial need, to attend one professional conference during the 2023-24 academic year. Decisions will be made on a rolling basis.
