The BOLD Center’s Academic Services Learning Lab is a new learning space dedicated to the BOLD student community which offers tutoring and academic skill-building opportunities for our future engineers! Scholars can enter a raffle for a CU Backpack! Grab & Go food goodies will be provided. 

Professor Matt Reichenbach, our new BOLD Faculty Fellow is now providing drop-in office hours for the APPM calculus sequence, including differential equations and MATLAB. Matt's office hours are held in the Academic Services Learning Lab.

At our first Joint Council meeting of the semester held on Sept. 11, we heard an update from Amy Moreno-Sherwood on the new Student Travel Request System that societies can apply for to receive funding through the CEAS. For the Student Travel Request Form, student societies will need to apply as a group and ensure they are filling out for departmental, BOLD and matching grant funding.
 
Each society shared an update on their conference travel planning for the fall. We discussed opportunities societies can use to recruit new students and concluded by sharing upcoming programs/events they are planning. That was the first of three Joint Council meeting for this semester. Our next meeting will be Mon., Oct. 21st!  

Each year, from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, we observe National Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating the cultures, contributions and honoring the histories of Hispanic and Latino Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.  

CU Boulder Engineering recognizes that the terms “Hispanic” and “Latinx/é” do not describe the community’s identity as a whole. We also recognize that a term that feels right for one person may not adequately capture the experience of another. We seek to celebrate this month as broadly and inclusively as possible, and to encourage individuals to proudly claim whatever label(s) best describe how they personally identify. 

Are you an undergraduate interested in working in paid STEM research?

Are you looking for a program that will provide you with mentors and workshops that will guide you through the world of academic research?

Have you not been able to obtain research experience and/or have you encountered adversity/challenges during your undergraduate degree?

The Uplift Research Program (organized by the STEM Routes organization) could be a great opportunity for you! We are looking for engaged undergraduate students that are interested in conducting research in a STEM lab, no matter their previous experience. The deadline for students to submit an application to be considered for Uplift (Academic Year 2024-2025) is September 25, 2024 at 5 p.m. MST.

The Engineering Excellence Fund (EEF) is excited to announce that the fall 2024 proposal cycle is now open! Faculty, staff, and studemt from the College of Engineering and Applied Science are encouraged to submit proposals for funding to enhance engineering education and support innovative projects. The deadline is Friday, October 18th at 11:59 p.m.

We welcome applications for funding in any amount with a focus on projects that have a significant impact on student learning and innovation. For additional details, please refer to the Request for Proposals (RFP). Email us for any questions. We look forward to seeing the creativity and excellence in this year’s submissions!

Desi holds a B.S. in nuclear engineering and an M.S. in civil engineering. They earned their Ph.D. in civil engineering in the spring of 2023. As someone who highly values connection and community, Desi is beyond excited to work alongside students and families to support their goals as we engage in new opportunities and grow together.

Hello! I am Amanda McKenzie, Coordinator for Community and Student Support at the BOLD Center. I support the GoldShirt program by providing scholarship advising, event planning and coordination, managing scholarship requirements through our GoldShirt Canvas course, and supervising our GoldShirt Student Assistants. In my free time I enjoy video games, baking, crafting, swimming, and exploring/learning about the world. Please stop by if you need anything, I’d be more than happy to chat!

Hello! I am Neelima Mukkatira, and I am a second year master's student at the department of Mechanical Engineering. I support GoldShirt through analyzing data, helping with administrative tasks, and support Desi and Amanda in any way they need! I am working on research in 2D materials on my masters thesis. In my free time, I like to go on long bike rides, garden, and take up creative projects.

Hi, I'm Brody and I’m currently a junior in Aerospace Engineering! Some of my favorite past times outside of school are fly fishing, soccer, snowboarding, guitar, and pretty much anything that has to do with nature. I love how close of a community The BOLD Center builds and how easy it is to meet people with similar interests!

Hello, my name is Dominic Gonzales and I am currently in my 4th year as an Electrical Engineer with a Business minor. I am a member of SHPE's executive board, I hold a leadership position in my fraternity, and work 3 jobs in the BOLD Center. 

Hi, my name is Joshua Tadesse and I’m a first generation African American student in my 4th year of Mechanical Engineering. I really enjoy watching and playing sports, working out, and watching tv shows/anime. Please feel free to reach out to me whenever you want to chat.  

Hi I am Lizzy Spann! I am currently pursuing a degree in Creative Technology & Design! I am a senior this year and will be graduating in May of 2025. I love Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and After effects. I love focusing on typography, graphic design, color/ color palettes, and logos. Outside of school I love to teach and compete in a dance called West Coast Swing, play board/ video games, reading and drawing. 

Hey, I’m Linnea (She/Her/Hers)! I’m in my fourth year of Aerospace Engineering and spend my free time immersed in D&D, biking, anime, gaming, and Magic: The Gathering. I’m also part of the Hispanic community and passionate about being a woman in STEM. I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone and am happy to help however I can.

My name is Daniel Carranza. I’m currently a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student with a passion for innovation and problem-solving. As a proud member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), I actively engage with my community and strive to uplift fellow Hispanic/Latino scholars. Outside of academics, I enjoy riding a bike, skateboarding, playing video games, combat sports and enjoy watching boxing and MMA, I just like doing activities.  I’m always down to help fellow students, especially in math or mechanical courses, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you need assistance.
