The BOLD Newsletter - Sept. 10, 2023

As the school year kicks into high gear, we know the BOLD Center is a popular spot for many to get some studying done, catch up with peers or attend a program event. 

We ask for all those using our space to: 

• Clean up any trash after yourself 
• Wipe surfaces down after use
• Put away all seats and tables and arrange the rooms back as you left it  

We have begun interviewing candidates for the Coordinator of Community and Student Support (GoldShirt Coordinator) position. We want you to help decide who we will select to join our community!

Curious about graduate school and the fantastic research happening at MIT AeroAstro? 

Alum Michelle Lin, the founder of CU WoAA, (BS APPM & ASEN ’21) will be showcasing the MIT AeroAstro graduate program and discussing their personal experience at CU & MIT, followed by an open Q&A session on Sept. 18, 2023 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the BOLD Center. 

This presentation is open to all students interested in learning about graduate school, MIT AeroAstro, and experiences at CU that Michelle found most formative.

CU Boulder’s Women of Aeronautics and Astronautics (CU WoAA) will be hosting their first-ever conference for CU students on Saturday, October 7th, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Aerospace Engineering Science Building!

This conference is intended to open up the doors for students to:

• Professional Growth and Networking Strategies
• Technical Workshops
• Academic Growth Tips and Tricks
• Diversity and Inclusion

The CU Boulder Bioastronautics Research Group, part of the Aerospace Engineering Department, is recruiting subjects to participate in an astronaut training study using virtual reality.

Subjects will be trained on one of three tasks: an entry-descent landing scenario, a rover driving scenario, or a habitat maintenance scenario. Subjects will complete anywhere from three to eight sessions, with the first session taking up to 2.5 hours and the following sessions taking one hour each.

All subjects between the ages of 18 and 65 are invited to email to learn more. Any questions about the study can be directed to Dr. Allison Anderson.  

The Student Professional Development program, through a DEI Impact grant, will support 45 engineering students from BOLD Center student societies, with high-financial need, to attend one professional conference during the 2023-24 academic year.

The Lattice Program is hiring Lattice Mentors – current students in the College of Engineering & Applied Science – to join the Lattice Team.

Mentors will work closely with Lattice professional staff and play an essential role in the program by welcoming incoming Lattice Scholars, helping to build relationships, as well as guiding and leading key conversations, connections, and activities with Lattice Scholars.

Hyde Engineering and Consulting

• Hyde Engineering and Consulting is looking for a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year student to be a lab assistant in their Boulder analytical laboratory. Ideally, the student would have an Engineering or Life Sciences background. The position would include working 10-20 hours a week during the school year and more in the summer.
