What would you like our community to know about you? My educational background includes a scholarship program like BOLD’s called the Multicultural Vision Program (MVP) at Iowa State University of Science and Technology. I’m still friends with my mentor over 20 years later. I graduated with degrees in Animal Science, Cultural Anthropology, and a graduate degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. In graduate school I also worked with the Program for Women in Science and Engineering as the first-year learning community coordinator and had the opportunity a couple of years ago to serve on the external review board for the program. In 2020, I earned a graduate certificate in Leadership and Management from our own Engineering Management Program!
What is your favorite aspect about the BOLD Center? I love engaging with our students and staff! BOLD has such great energy and can be so lively. I love when I walk through BOLD and see our community laughing, working on something in a group, meeting with tutors and/or greeting friends as they come in!
What is something on your mind lately? How much work it takes to keep up our physical space! With so much traffic in BOLD and great events going on, it’s important for all our community members to clean up after themselves (especially in the kitchen and conference rooms). Our staff spends quite a bit of time picking up papers on the floor, erasing things off the whiteboards, and cleaning the kitchen. It’s my hope that our entire community demonstrates care and respect for this beautiful Center that we all share.
What’s a hobby of yours outside of overseeing BOLD? I absolutely love to travel. This year I had great trips to Mexico and Outer Banks in North Carolina. I hope to return to Mexico during winter break, and then start planning for a trip to Italy in the next couple of years. My families are from Mexico and Italy, and members of each family have recently written a book about our origins and moving to the state of Iowa, where I am originally from.
Want to make a shameless plug on anything? Please check out our new website and the events calendar! You’ll now know all the great things happening in BOLD, and I hope to see you there.
