Chemical & Biological Engineering

Douglas Gin is a professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. His research focuses on functional polymer materials based on liquid crystals and new iconic materials based on room-temperature ionic liquids. Gin is a recipient of the CU Boulder Inventor of the Year Award and is a fellow of the American Chemical Society’s Industrial & Engineering Chemistry and Polymeric Materials Science & Engineering Divisions. He was awarded the NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award in 1996. Gin earned his PhD in chemistry from California Institute of Technology and joined the CU Boulder faculty in 2001.
