The Dean’s Office in the College of Engineering and Applied Science is looking for student assistants to join their front desk team! The team serves as the first point of contact for visitors of the office, handles all incoming phone and engineering email traffic, provides event and meeting support, and maintains an organized and well-resourced front desk and copy room. This position helps create a welcome, positive, inclusive, and friendly environment for those coming to the Dean’s Office, and we are looking for enthusiastic students who enjoy working with others, supporting internal and external customers, and are eager to learn and become part of our team. This position reports directly to the Executive Assistant to the Dean. On the job training is available.

We are specifically hiring for the following shifts for the spring 2023 semester. More hours may be available as needed to cover other shifts and assist with events.

Tuesdays: 12-2 p.m.
Wednesdays: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Thursdays: 12-2 p.m.
Fridays: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Specific functions include:

  • Answer phone and assist caller with their questions, transferring to the appropriate staff member or university office when appropriate.
  • Welcome all guests as they come in, answer visitor questions, provide directions, and help troubleshoot general routine questions or issues as they arise.
  • Manage the CU Engineering email by answering general questions or forwarding to the appropriate team or point of contact.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute all incoming mail and help college staff when needed in processing outgoing packages.
  • Maintain staff breakroom and copy room, including ordering and stocking supplies and cleaning.
  • Assist building manager in maintaining conference rooms and other projects as needed.
  • Provide support on other projects as needed for the Assistant and Associate Deans as well as other members of the Deans’ Office staff.

Required Competencies: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and willingness to develop new skills as needed.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work as part of a team that communicates and supports each other.

What we’d like you to have:

  • Highly reliable, self-directed, and well-organized.
  • Capable of handling sensitive personal data with discretion.
  • Experience working in an office and coordination of office tasks.
  • Knowledge of the College of Engineering and Applied Science/CU Boulder campus
  • Experience with inventory and mailing service or willingness to learn.

Hours: 6-12/week, possible increase in hours during summer months.

Pay: $16 to start
