Meet Assistant Professor Robyn Macdonald

Robyn Macdonald is joining Smead Aerospace in January 2021 as a new Assistant Professor.
She is currently completing post-doctoral research at the Computational Hypersonics Research Lab at the University of Minnesota studying turbulence in hypersonic flows. She completed both her BS (2013) and PhD (2019) in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Macdonald’s research focuses on the development and application of models for hypersonic flows. Working at the intersection of chemistry and fluid dynamics, she leverages fundamental physics principles to improve predictive modeling capabilities of high speed flows.
Macdonald is the recipient of a number of awards and fellowships, including the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship (2015), the President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (2018), and the AE Faculty Outstanding Graduate Student Award (2018) from the Aerospace Engineering department at the University of Illinois. In addition, her work has been recognized as the Editor’s Choice in the Journal of Chemical Physics.
