Congratulations to Aerospace graduate student Reider Larsen for being named the 2019 University of Colorado Boulder Student Employee of the Year.
He was nominated by Gina Lafferty and Lee Reedy, from the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP)-Mission Operations where Reidar works as a Graduate Research Assistant – Mission Operations Command Controller (CC). Reidar’s position supports the commanding, planning, data analysis, engineering analysis, ground operations, and software tools for LASP- operated NASA missions and spacecraft. Working alongside Flight Controller professionals, Command Controllers (CCs) assist with anomaly diagnosis, troubleshooting, and recovery actions. CCs must develop a thorough understanding of each of the eight spacecraft and payloads operated at LASP and are responsible for planning and sending commands to multi-million dollar spacecraft.
Reidar naturally gravitates toward difficult tasks, no matter how demanding. Many of his projects, often self-identified, have helped minimize the data analysis hours required to monitor instrument and spacecraft safety.
