- The Research & Innovation Office (RIO) announced that Tanya Ennis, PhD, has been named director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Research, Creative Work and Innovation effective Oct. 16. In this newly established campuswide role, Ennis will promote the integration of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) within the university’s research, creative work and innovation ecosystem.

- CU Boulder’s second annual Sandia Day drew over 160 registered attendees for a packed agenda highlighting the strong partnership between the university and Sandia National Laboratories, potential future avenues for collaborative, globally impactful research, and job and internship opportunities.
- In partnership with the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), the University of Colorado welcomes proposals for translational quantum research seed grants. Seed grants are open to any Colorado research institution and industry partners. The goals of the programs are to incentivize innovations launched out of the lab and help them along the development path to new programs and businesses.
- Kirk Ambrose of the Department of Classics and Rebecca Safran of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology have been recognized with 2023-24 Distinguished Research Lectureships.
- The Research & Innovation Office (RIO) has opened RIO Faculty Fellows 2024 cohort applications, which will be accepted through October 23. Selections will be announced in November.
- Gary Henry—head of the Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG) within the Research & Innovation Office (RIO) since 2021—will transition into the role of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research Management and will serve as the Interim Executive Associate Director for LASP Finance and Operations. Ruzzene also appointed Alexa Van Dalsem to the post of Interim Director of OCG. In this role, she will also join the RIO Leadership Team.
- A new NSF-funded center will examine the potential for sound to revolutionize computing, communications, sensing disease in human tissue and more. Massimo Ruzzene, vice chancellor for research and innovation and dean of the institutes at CU Boulder, is a co-PI on the project.
- “Having been part of the INSTAAR family and CU Boulder’s Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (ATOC) since 2010, I am confident that Nikki is poised to provide the leadership and stability to best serve the institute during this time,” said Massimo Ruzzene, vice chancellor for Research and Innovation and dean of the institutes.
- CU Boulder is a partner of the CO-WY Engine, one of 16 finalists for NSF's inaugural Regional Innovation Engines competition, which could net winners $160M over 10 years. NSF Engines funds regional hubs that will increase the speed and scale of emerging, critical and use-inspired technology.
