September 9 ► Accelerating Faculty Success: Working with the Research & Innovation Office

Designed for new faculty members, this workshop will provide an overview of the Research & Innovation Office’s (RIO) various units and roles in supporting research, scholarly and creative activities.  From providing proposal writing support and targeted workshops to developing strategic partnerships, RIO is here to help identify and secure funding, catalyze new ideas and increase connections across campus.

September 18► NSF Major Research Instrumentation Program (MRI)

NSF’s MRI program is designed for major instrumentation acquisition or development. The MRI is a limited submission program, which means RIO administers an internal campus competition to select the applicant(s) that will submit proposals to NSF. During this workshop, a panel of previous CU MRI grantees will discuss the program, share strategies for both the internal campus competition and NSF proposals, and answer questions from the attendees.

October 2 ►Finding Funding: SPIN, Dimensions

Is your search for relevant funding opportunities time-consuming and onerous? Join the Research & Innovation Office (RIO) for the Finding Funding workshop to learn how to get customized funding alerts delivered directly to your inbox. In this interactive workshop, you will learn how to effectively search for funding opportunities on a variety of funding databases, including SPIN and Dimensions. You will also learn how to create online accounts and generate customized email funding alerts from SPIN. RIO staff will demonstrate the capabilities of these sites and how they can make your search for funding easier and more robust.

Important Note: Please bring a laptop computer to the workshop with you to participate fully.

Following the presentation, there will be time for Q&A, and time for you to network with other faculty and staff.

October 9 ► Applying to the David & Lucille Packard Fellowships for Science and Engineering

Interested in applying for a Packard Fellowship? All early-career faculty in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, astronomy, computer science, earth science, ocean science, and all branches of engineering are invited to a conversation on the David and Lucile Packard Foundation Fellowships. Previous Packard Fellows will share about their successful experiences and will be available to answer questions. CU Boulder's Office of Advancement will also provide information about what types of projects the foundation is looking to fund, and how to put together a successful application. Please note that Packard Fellowships are Limited Submission Funding Opportunities, and are subject to internal competition.

October 16 ► Proposal Budgeting 101

Stressed about developing budgets for proposals? Please join the Research & Innovation Office (RIO) and the Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG) for a Budgeting 101 workshop focused on externally funded research, scholarship, and creative work projects. Senior OCG staff will provide an overview of the budget process for faculty looking to understand budget basics, including the federal and university policies that guide budget development. Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity for Q&A.

November 6 ► Applying to the Research and Innovation Seed Grant 

"Mighty oaks from little acorns grow"- so says an English proverb. Have you been considering a project with great potential, but are having difficulty finding funding? Come learn about the Research & Innovation Office's annual Seed Grant program! Designed to catalyze new areas of research, scholarship and creative work, the Seed Grant Program awards nearly $1 million annually to CU Boulder faculty across all disciplines. At this event, RIO will convene a panel of previous Seed Grant recipients; attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear from previous grantees about their experience securing a Research & Innovation Seed Grant.
