Holds

A hold prevents you from taking some kind of action, whether that's registering for classes, getting proof of enrollment, receiving a financial aid refund, ordering a transcript or receiving a diploma. CU Boulder departments and offices may place a hold on your record for a number of reasons, including but not limited to financial, advising, scholastic, conduct and health.

Resolve your holds as quickly as possible by following the instructions associated with each hold:

  1. Log in to Buff Portal.

  2. Select the notifications icon or go to the holds and to-dos card

  3. Select "You have X hold(s)."

  4. Select a hold to view its description, which explains how to clear the hold and which office to contact with questions.

To-Do Items

A to-do item is a strongly recommended action that certain students must complete if they want a specific outcome. For example, students must complete certain to-do items to receive financial aid or to allow their parents to view and pay their tuition and fee bill. Some to-do items become holds if not completed by a specific date.

Monitor your to-do items closely and, when applicable, follow the instructions to resolve it:

  1. Log in to Buff Portal.

  2. Select the notifications icon or go to the holds and to-dos card

  3. Select "You have X to-do(s)."

  4. Select a to-do to view its description.
