Intra-University Transfer (IUT)
Colleges, schools and programs review and make decisions on IUTs in OnBase. Approved applications are reviewed and processed by the IUT Coordinator in the Office of the Registrar.
Processing typically takes 2-3 business days; however, IUTs submitted near a deadline or in large batches (i.e., 100 students or more) may require 3-5 business days.
IUT Training
If you’re new to CU Boulder and you’ll be advising students on IUTs or processing IUT applications, follow these steps for support.
- Visit the Client Services Support Teams Channel and request access. Access requests will be reviewed in 1-2 business days.
- From the menu, select Intra-University Transfer (IUT) to view IUT Trainings documents, see deadlines, college requirements and more.
- Request access to the IUT Guide (Canvas)
- Subscribe to the Registrar Network for updates using your @colorado.edu or your @cu.edu address.
- Email IUT@colorado.edu to request an introductory training on IUT processing and IUTadvising@colorado.edu to request an introductory training on IUT advising.
You'll be invited to participate in a collaborative training between the Office of Undergraduate Education and the Office of the Registrar.
IUT Policies
Please review the IUT policies that may impact a student’s IUT eligibility, depending on their intended college, school or program.
Intra-University Transfer (IUT) Advising Steps
- Run a "What If" Degree Audit with the student
- Explore the CU Boulder Catalog and sample four-year plans.
- Complete an IUT Intent Tag Form for any student with an interest in an IUT.
- Access student IUT progress on the IUT Dashboard (updated every Monday).
- Demonstrate the "Meet with a Different Advisor" tile in Buff Portal Advising.
- Introduce the IUT Guide, IUT General webpage and the IUT college, school or program page.
- Inform students with Veteran and Military Affairs, International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS), and the Herbst Academic Center to meet with their advisors.
- Ensure students have Verified their Transfer Credit and understand how it might apply to their intended IUT college, school or program.
- Share financial resources relevant to the IUT process such as, Bursar's Office, Office of Financial Aid, and CU Boulder Scholarships.
- Discuss similar majors with the CU Boulder Major Card Sort.
- Propose minor and certificate options.
- Encourage students to apply by the Priority Consideration Deadlines for full consideration of their Application
- Assist students in determining when they are eligible for admission or “On Track” status
Intra-University Transfer (IUT) Intent Tag
Academic advisors and coaches can complete the Intra-University Transfer (IUT) Intent Tag Form to tag current students who indicate interest in completing an IUT. The (IUT) Intent Tag Form can be used to add, remove or change a student’s interest. Use the link here or in the “Links” section in the Buff Portal Advising fly-out panel. An overview of IUT Intent Tag data is available through the IUT Dashboard.
Advisors should tag any student who express a desire to transfer degree programs via one of the following methods:
- Enrolling in IUT prerequisite courses
- Raising their GPA to meet an IUT requirement
- Attending an information or workshop
- Contacting an advisor in their intended field of study
- Declaring a dual degree/licensure program

Intra-University Transfer (IUT) Dashboard
Access the IUT Dashboard to interact with data from IUT Applications and Intent Tags. The dashboard is a useful overview of IUT student activity and used support prospective IUT students.
