Joseph is a Ph.D. graduate of the Philosophy department at the University of Colorado. His research interests lie at the intersection of Philosophy of Science, Paleoclimatology, and Scientific Modeling.

His dissertation provides an epistemic account paleoclimate modeling, one that illuminates the relationship paleoclimate models have to experiment and scientific theory, justifies their reliability for paleoclimate purposes, and highlights their role in supporting future climate projections. Joseph is also working on related philosophical projects on the exploratory use of general circulation models and the methodology of paleoclimate proxy measurement.

Joseph is also involved with the Center for the Study of Origins and the Committee on the History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Colorado.
