This Week at the College of Music: Student Edition - Nov. 4, 2021

Our Entrepreneurship Center for Music recently hosted a very special evening with the Boston Public Quartet (BPQ). The event featured a student-led discussion of Diversity, Equity + Inclusion (DEI) in the chamber music world with members of BPQ, followed by a performance of works by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and other People of Color) composers Jessie Montgomery, Florence Beatrice Price and Jeraldine Herbison. College of Music students who led the discussion included (from center) pianist Jerimiah Owens, two members of our Graduate Quartet-in-Residence—Ivalas Quartet violinists Reuben Kebede and Tiani Butts—and pianist Elizabeth Smith.

• It’s Homecoming week! Join in collective school spirit for the Pearl Street Stampede tomorrow, Nov. 5, with performances from our Golden Buffalo Marching Band, and members of the CU Football Team and Spirit Squad. Check out the full calendar of festivities. 
• We’re excited about the Museum of Boulder’s exhibit looking at CU Boulder’s lineage of onsite music programming and sought-out on-campus concert venues … and providing a glimpse into the College of Music’s future. Among other events and activities, on Nov. 5, Professor of Musicology Laurie Sampsel will present “A Guided Tour of Colorado Songs,” providing insight into 20 songs inspired by the Centennial State. Learn more + get your tickets!
• Join us for “Urinetown, The Musical”—performed by the CU Boulder College of Music BM/MT program—Nov. 11-14! Learn how the production shines a satirical light on capitalism and climate change. 
• Lleva Nuestras Voces: On Nov. 6, join our American Music Research Center in celebrating the legacy of the Chicano Movement as it carries on in the words and music of Chicanx performers today. Colorado Poet Laureate Bobby LeFebre will present a virtual reading of his work, followed by a live, in-person performance by pop/hip-hop group 2MX2 in this free event.
