At the CU Boulder College of Music, we offer a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree with an emphasis in Music Production (as of fall 2025); and a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree with an emphasis in Songwriting (as of fall 2026). 

BA Music, emphasis Music Production

  • Achieve a broad understanding of music history, music theory, music and media in culture and the core liberal arts curriculum—while developing your technical skills.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary recording and production projects and even complete an internship in the music industry.
  • Coursework ranges from an introductory survey of music software and hardware to in-depth studies of DSP, synthesis, algorithmic composition, recording and post-production techniques, film scoring and many other topics.
  • Software used in Music Production classes includes Logic Pro, ProTools, Abelton Live, Finale, Lilypond, MAX, PD, SuperCollider, CSound, Final Cut Pro, Audacity, SoundHack and Spear.

BA Music, emphasis Songwriting

  • Develop your songcraft and nurture your artistic voice through the study of songwriting technique, musical style, music theory, ear training, guitar, keyboard and vocal proficiencies as well as modern media, recording arts and music technology.
  • Refine your performance skills through both solo and ensemble performance with multiple opportunities to share your music on the Boulder campus and in the broader community.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary creative projects and artistic collaborations while acquiring an expansive range of knowledge through CU Boulder’s liberal arts curriculum.
