Lucas Hopkins
Lecturer, Saxophone


Lecturer in Saxophone Lucas Hopkins joined the College of Music faculty in 2022. In addition to his appointment at CU Boulder, Hopkins—a prominent soloist, chamber musician and educator in classical, contemporary and jazz music—serves on the faculties of Austin Peay State University and Tennessee State University.

As a performer, Hopkins has presented guest recitals at various universities, appeared as a soloist with the Oakland Symphony and performed with orchestras, most notably the New World Symphony and the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra. Additionally, Hopkins frequently performs across the country as the bass saxophonist of the Moanin’ Frogs Saxophone Sextet.

As an educator, Hopkins has been invited to present university master classes, including serving as the saxophone clinician at Clínicas Instrumentales de UNIBAC in Cartagena, Columbia.

Hopkins earned a DMA from the University of Colorado Boulder and additional graduate degrees from the University of Michigan and Northwestern University. His primary teachers include Timothy McAllister, Eugene Rousseau, Tom Myer and Andrew Bishop.

Hopkins is an endorsing artist for Conn-Selmer and D’Addario Woodwinds and Key Leaves.
