Orientation - New student welcome program

Find information on CU Boulder's New Student Welcome Program.

During Music Orientation, incoming students will have specific activities, such as ensemble auditions, as well as keyboard and theory placement assessments.

Advising communication

Fall Applicants: As early as mid-May, you will receive several emails from the College of Music Office Undergraduate Studies. These emails will provide important information regarding course registration, orientation, etc. Please make sure to read all the information carefully.

Spring Applicants: will be contacted individually for advising between Nov. 1 and Jan. 15.

When to register for courses

New, incoming music students will be pre-registered for music courses. However, students will still need to register online for non-music courses during self-selected registration periods in July. Music majors will register for classes during the first two weeks of the registration period in July. Students who have declared a double degree with Music will also need to check with the other college/school for registration dates. Spring applicants will be registered for courses during their advising meeting.

New student convocation

New Student Convocation is an extension of the CU Boulder Campus and College of Music orientation programming. Convo sessions are designed to provide new undergraduate music majors with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in making progress toward a music degree. Incoming music majors are required to attend all convocation sessions. Students who do not attend the required number of convo sessions will have a registration hold placed on their record and will not be able to register for spring semester classes.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns! We look forward to welcoming you!
