JEDI-related Data and Trends

ENVS Demographic Data
The data presented in the following slides represents some of the demographics of faculty and students in the Environmental Studies Department (ENVS) and Masters of the Environment program (MENV). This data comes from CU Boulder's publicly available census data. It can also be found, along with other, university-wide data, on the website of the Office of Data Analytics. We acknowledge that this data is limited in the identities that it represents. We also regret that we cannot provide data on ENVS staff demographics as the University does not distinguist staff by department.
We in ENVS JEDI understand that numbers do not represent the whole of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) in our department. However, we do believe demographic data provide one kind of indicator of our success or failure in ensuring that the ENVS department is accessible to all. We have published this data in order to improve transparency and as a part of our commitment to improve JEDI in our department.

Faculty Demographics 2008-2020/2021
The following slides show the demographics of faculty in ENVS and MENV. We have provided data for all ENVS faculty as well as data dividing faculty into 1) tenured and tenure-track faculty positions and 2) faculty positions that do not have tenure benefits attached. Not enough individuals exist for the University to provide data on the races/ethnicities of ENVS faculty, so that data is presented as "BIPOC" and "Not BIPOC." According to University definitions BIPOC in this data means: "Faculty self-identifying as American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black, Hispanic, or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander."
