The Srivastava-Waelde Scholarship also helped get recent graduate Kim (CompSci’21) over the finish line of his degree. Kim’s family came to Colorado from South Korea when he was 10, and he is a graduate of Highlands Ranch High School.

Kim originally chose CU Boulder in part because of generous scholarship and financial aid offers that helped to relieve the cost burden on him and his family. But during his senior year at CU Boulder, he became a part-time student, which meant he lost almost all those aid opportunities.

“Needless to say, I was stressed about my ability to afford college when I was so close to graduating,” Kim said.

When he learned he would receive the scholarship, he said he felt a combination of relief and joy.

“I cannot thank Ashok and Lynn enough for their generosity,” Kim said. “Thanks to the opportunity, I was able to complete a successful last year of my undergraduate career.”

Kim recently moved to Austin, Texas, for a software development role at Expedia Group.

“The experience so far has been great! Transitioning to a new city and having a fresh start without knowing anyone in the area was daunting at first, but I am more excited than scared about the opportunities here and my ability to grow as an individual,” he said.
