The Department of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering (ECEE) welcomed several department chairs to CU Boulder for the Western Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Head Association (ECEDHA) fall 2023 meeting on October 19 and 20. 

ECEDHA is the premier association for electrical and computer engineering educators, composed of nearly 250 Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited university department heads and chairs from across the United States and Canada.

Scott Diddams, professor in CU Boulder’s Department of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, is collaborating on this four-year, multi-agency effort with physicists from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

“Our vision is to take the best quantum science from the lab and translate it out to the world,” said Diddams. “It’s going to be an important activity for the university and field to show how optical clocks can impact the field of geodesy.”

Payments for activity logged during the third quarter of 2023 (July - September) will be included in November 2023 monthly paychecks. Typically, third quarter payments are included in October paychecks each year. The required information was sent to Employee Services too late to be included with the October payroll due to the unexpected extra time taken for the Data Center relocation. Employee Service apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this delay.

OIT has released new technology called Always On VPN for macOS to its customers. Always On VPN allows you to access UCBFiles and other CU resources from off campus without manually launching the Cisco AnyConnect client. Instead, your computer will automatically connect to the VPN within about 15 seconds of logging in to your computer. Many UIS resources will also be available.

Your DDS-supported Mac computer may have received or will soon receive an update to Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams will now be called Microsoft Teams Classic, but will still retain all the same functionality and look of the old client. If you have multiple versions of Teams installed, you can ignore any version that is not called Microsoft Teams Classic. DDS will silently remove the incorrect version if you have it on your machine.

The update to Microsoft Teams Classic should be completed by Monday, October 16. If you have any issues with the new Microsoft Teams Classic client or need any assistance after the update, please contact your DDS team via the DDS Service Request Portal.
