Electrical, Computer & Energy Engineering Department News - April 15, 2022
Upcoming Events
Our graduating students have been hard at work on their Senior Design projects since the fall semester. Join them Friday, April 22, as they demo new inventions and technologies, including:
- An interactive model of a city, including an electric vehicle that can charge itself wirelessly and provide power from its own battery to the grid.
- A small-scale, wearable, mobile device that allows for the collection and interpretation of AQI data for local air conditions.
- A robotic, speech-activated nurse assistant that automates mundane tasks such as instrument operation troubleshooting, and specimen transfer.
- An electronic music synthesizer that can be controlled using eye, muscle and breath sensors.
This event is family-friendly and open to the public! Visit the Expo website to learn more.

Two ECEE alumni earn inaugural Alumni Engagement Medal
The medal was established in 2021 for college units and programs to recognize highly engaged alumni who impact their areas through volunteerism and/or philanthropy. Each academic degree program and the BOLD Center is able to select one alumnus/a annually who has been significantly engaged during the previous year.
Ram Narayanswamy (PhDElEngr’96) - nominated by ECEE. Ram serves as chair of the ECEE External Advisory Board, as a member of the ATLAS advisory board, and as a member of the ECEE marketing and outreach committee. His input is deeply rooted in his long-term management experience and enables us to move beyond our internal thinking to discover fresh new solutions. He is a true leader on the EAB, and he has provided valuable input to the department’s strategic plan. Ram is deeply committed to the continued success and growth of the department.
Jason Mucilli (ElEngr’07) - nominated by the Biomedical Engineering Program. Jason has been a consistent and helpful partner to BME since 2018, and he has provided valuable feedback on programmatic curriculum. In 2020, Mucilli joined the Industry Advisory Board, where he is viewed as an enthusiastic and highly valued member.

Blum wins Marinus Smith Award
Teaching Assistant Professor Arielle Blum was nominated by a parent for the award, which recognizes CU Boulder faculty and staff members who have had a particularly positive impact on students.
“Out of all of his professors, he often speaks about how much he appreciates the way Ms. Blum teaches, and how she encourages and works with students to help them succeed in their studies. As a parent I am grateful, because having such a supportive influence at this point in his education is important in inspiring my son to clarify and move towards his own dreams.” - Carol Anne White, family member of William R.
