Michael Brand Memorial and Memorial Scholarship

Michael

ECEE PhD student Michael Brand's positive impact reverbrates throughout CU Boulder: through his research with Professor Kelvin Wagner, through his volunteerism with Capstone, K-12 programs, and recruitment events, through his general kindness and support of his peers at the graduate and undergraduate level, and more. His care for our community, his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and create a new friendship, and his growing acumen as a researcher and mentor showed the true magnitude of his character.

Additionally, as a CU Physics undergraduate and an ECEE PhD student, Michael was particularly proud of his 17 conference and journal papers.

Memorial

The Michael P. Brand Memorial Scholarship and the Michael Brand Memorial Library were established in August 2023 in honor of Michael. The fellowship and library are intended to propagate Michael’s shining contributions to the CU Boulder community and to aid in the exploration in the field of optics, photonics and lasers for future generations of like-minded students. 

Scholarship 

The Michael Brand Memorial Scholarship will provide scholarship support for graduate and undergraduate students, with preference given to students who are focusing their studies in the areas of optics, photonics, and lasers. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the faculty of the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Energy Engineering.
