With current Smart-Home technology, user data and privacy are being compromised every single day. Users that want the accessibility of current Smart-Home technology but do not want to risk their privacy are left without an option.

Current products on the market have lots of capabilities, but also have lots of privacy concerns. Many potential users are hesitant to enter the smart home market due to the fear that their data may be used maliciously, or without their consent. Devices that currently dominate the market have had numerous security issues, including (among others) recording when they should not be. Additionally, the closed-source nature of these devices makes it difficult to foster a development community (which limits software availability and curtails feature expansion), in addition to enabling price-gouging on ecosystem-compatible devices.

Meet Homie.

Homie is the first Smart-Home system to tailor to your home, leaving you the choice to disconnect from the web and company-based servers, and be safe from data breaches.

As an open-source alternative, Homie’s inherent transparency provides peace-of-mind. You can be sure of the security of your data without sacrificing compatibility with existing IoT devices.  Furthermore, its customizability offers the user the freedom to enable or disable features, tailoring their system to the needs of their home while leveraging the capabilities of a greater open-source community.

Suitable for all systems, small to large.

  • Homie is a good fit for anyone, but some potential use cases include:
  • Individuals interested in smart-home technology but are reluctant to adopt due to the known associated privacy and security concerns.
  • Programming hobbyist and developers that have an interest in a customizable and open-source smart home device.
  • Companies and Government Agencies who need automation that won't compromise their security.
  • Educational Institutions who want to teach programming in a fun and interactive way, using open source IoT.
  • Anyone else with a desire for smart-device implementation that they truly own. With Homie, your data never leaves your local network, cutting out reliance on cloud-based services that are known to sell or profit from user information also such as Google and Amazon.

With Homie, your personal data never leaves your local network. But cutting out reliance on cloud-based services that are known to sell or profit from user information doesn’t have to mean losing functionality.

Homie provides a different kind of smart home solution that offers transparency, autonomy, extensibility, security, and a well-rounded, community-driven user experience. Rather than depending on cloud-base services hosted by high profile company servers, Homie connects to a locally hosted device that comprises the brain of your home automation system. Updates and extensions of the Homie system can be done through company provided updates or through open-source communities. Commands are handled locally but can be used to control a host of JJ-GEEX devices, as well as existing IoT devices on the market.

Functionality includes voice access to media control, requesting weather and news up-dates, as well as control of devices like lights, door locks, and home environmental controls. While customization is available for advanced users, devices can work in a plug-and-play fashion. With Homie, you can ditch the insecure cloud-base services with access to your home and build your own fully independent Intranet of Things.
