It has been labeled the "anthem of the swing era." The most popular recording of the tune was made by Glenn Miller and it remains indelibly identified with the bandleader. The members of his band got tired of having to perform it over and over. The tune had a rich history among jazz composers, arrangers and bands long before Miller got his hands on it. It has been performed and morphed into many odd characterizations from karioke to disco.
