A String of Pearls

On November 3, 1941, Glenn Miller and his Orchestra recorded what would become one of their biggest hits, the Jerry Gray original composition and arrangement of a swing instrumental titled A String of Pearls. By February 1942 the RCA Bluebird record would top the Billboard Top 10 best-selling record charts. It was one of the most successful results of the historic collaboration between Glenn Miller and Jerry Gray that produced more top 10 records during the fastest time period of any musical team in history. A String of Pearls has a very interesting history and many collaborators including jazz cornet legend Bobby Hackett. The story of A String of Pearls includes Glenn Miller and his Orchestra, the Glenn Miller Army Air Forces Orchestra and many other artists. A String of Pearls remains one of the most requested and performed tunes by today's Glenn Miller Orchestra and is instantly recognized and identified with Glenn Miller. This rich legacy is documented in our history which an be found here:
