Why Choose an On The Map program?

The world is full of so many amazing travel opportunities, so why pick one of these destinations (aside from the scholarship perks)?

  • Overtourism. Avoid contributing to overtourism, housing crises, and driving up cost of living in high-volume study abroad destinations.
  • Cost. You can save money in many of these destinations by avoiding high-cost-of-living due to tourism, see our most affordable On The Map eligible programs.
  • Sustainability. Demand for resources becomes overwhelming in places already stretched thin by excessive tourism and study abroad students.
  • Experience. Take the time to really get to know a country or region that might not be as easy to visit later on.
  • Support. If some of these locations appeal to you but feel outside of your comfort zone, you will have the extra built-in community and support systems around you that only a study abroad program can offer. This allows you to get comfortable in your host country, engage meaningfully with the community through your program, and expand your travel confidence for the rest of your life!
  • Stand out. These destinations will always be a unique point of interest on your resume and help you differentiate yourself in an increasingly competitive job market.
