Grading Updates

CU Boulder is providing a grace period for Spring 2020 classes with a pass/fail deadline of April 30 or May 1. Undergraduate and graduate students now have until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 11, to submit a pass/fail request form to change their grade mode from letter grade to pass/fail or vice versa.

Some students are currently experiencing issues when attempting to change a Spring 2020 class's grade mode to pass/fail.

For student option classes taken pass/fail (P/F), final grades of C- or above as input by faculty will be systematically converted to a P+, whereas grades of D+, D and D- will convert to the standard P grade.

To help you gauge the effect of lifting pass/fail restrictions for Spring 2020, the reporting team has developed or modified two reports to include columns related to grading basis and earned grades. In addition, a new report was developed to help administrative offices, departments and advisors keep track of service indicators assigned to currently enrolled students.

For Spring 2020, the provost recently announced that CU Boulder will lift restrictions on pass/fail credits for all majors and degrees (other than law) and allow those students to declare a pass/fail option for most classes.

We recently learned of a system issue affecting a small number of students’ pass/fail selections. This issue has since been resolved and will not impact pass/fail selections for future semester enrollments.

As of Spring 2020, we've pushed back the deadline to submit a grade replacement request form to allow students more time to request grade replacement. The Spring 2020 deadline for 16-week classes is Friday, March 20.

If grades have posted for a student's approved grade replacement class, their current and most recent prior attempts are now indicated in Campus Solutions by UGRI/GRRI and UGRE/GRRE repeat codes, respectively.

The Fall 2019 deadline to request grade replacement for 16-week classes was Sept. 13. In the interest of equitably enforcing this policy for all students, we do not grant exceptions to posted deadlines.
