For more than 50 years, Buff Bus has been transporting students around and across the CU Boulder campus.

Moving thousands of students around campus each day the Buff Bus routes (Williams Village/Bear Creek and Marine Street Express) and the RTD Bus routes (Stampede, Bound and HOP) are key cogs in CU Boulder’s transportation program. The Buff Bus connects students living in Williams Village and Bear Creek to main campus and operate through the fall and spring semesters when classes are in session. RIDER ALERT(s):

  • The Williams Village/Bear Creek Buff Buses will resume service on Monday, August 26.

The Williams Village/Bear Creek bus route operates Monday - Sunday throughout the fall and spring semesters when classes are in session. The route runs clockwise with stops at Bear Creek, Williams Village, Engineering Center, C4C, Euclid/CASE, Physics, Math and Colorado/30th Southside. Hours of operation are: Mon. - Fri. from 7:00 a.m. - midnight and Sat. & Sun. from  10:00 a.m. - midnight.

  • Beginning Monday, Aug. 12, 2019, CU Boulder will assume operation of the RTD Stampede bus route that connects Main Campus to the Discovery Drive area of East Campus.
  • As of Monday, August 12, 2019, several Stampede stops are being discontinued or moved:
    • Westbound: Colorado at 28th (farside) will be discontinued due to low ridership and close proximity to nearby bus stops.  Alternate stops are at 28th Street (nearside) and at Folsom.
    • Eastbound: Colorado at Folsom (nearside) will merge with the Will Vill bus stop, about 50 feet east.This change will reduce delays on Colorado and provide a common boarding location for passengers traveling to Colorado at 30th.
    • Colorado at Folsom (farside) will be discontinued due to low ridership and close proximity to the revised stop at Folsom (nearside).

Effective Monday August 12: Stampede schedule will shift slightly -  the buses will run from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. During these times, bus frequency will be every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. and every 30 minutes from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Fall schedule effective Monday August 26: During the academic year, CU Boulder plans to extend the hours of service for the Stampede, running from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • During the academic year when classes are in session, bus frequency will be every 15 minutes from 7 to 8:30 a.m.; every 10 minutes from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; every 15 minutes from 4:30 to 7:45 p.m.; and every 30 minutes from 7:45 to 10 p.m.

RIDER ALERT(s):

  • Beginning Aug. 12, the Marine Street Express stop on Euclid Avenue across from the Center for Academic Success and Engagement will relocate to 18th Street, just south of Euclid Avenue. Departures from this stop will be at 24 and 54 minutes past each hour during both summer and academic year operations.
  • Beginning Aug. 12, the Marine Street Express will take a new route from East Campus to Main Campus -- via Foothills Parkway and Colorado Avenue -- that utilizes more right turns, increasing safety and efficiency of the route. This shift will not alter departure times or stops serviced. The route from Main Campus to East Campus will remain the same. The change is reflected on the campus bus routes map.

The Marine Street Express is a campus shuttle route connecting the Marine Street area of East Campus to Main Campus. This express route serves two stops along Marine Street and three on Main Campus: the Engineering Center/Lot 436, the Center for Community (C4C) and 18th Street (just south of Euclid Ave).

Summer schedule through Friday, August 23: Marine Street Express buses will depart Marine Street/ARCE every 30 minutes Monday through Friday from 6:40 a.m. – 4:40 p.m. at 10 and 40 past the hour.  Departures from UMC are scheduled every 30 minutes from 6:55 a.m. - 4:55 p.m. at 25 and 55 past the hour. There is no Saturday/Sunday service.

Fall schedule effective Monday, August 26: Marine Express buses will depart Marine Street/ARCE every 30 minutes Monday through Friday from 7:10 a.m. – 5:10 p.m. at 10 and 40 past the hour.  Departures from UMC are scheduled every 30 minutes from 7:24 a.m. - 5:24 p.m. at 24 and 54 past the hour. There is no Saturday/Sunday service.

The HOP bus route is a bi-directional loop that connects campus with downtown Boulder and the 29th Street Mall.  For bus stop locations and details, visit the City of Boulder's website, or download the Transit app.

On football game days both the Williams Village/Bear Creek bus and the Athens North bus alter their routes one hour before football games to one hour after the game. The Williams Village/Bear Creek Football Reroute[1] runs clockwise, and stops at Williams Village, C4C, Regent, Colorado & 30th and Bear Creek.  On basketball game days, the Williams Village/Bear Creek bus alters its route one hour before the game to one hour after the game. The Basketball Reroute[1] runs clockwise, and stops at Williams Village, Regent/Broadway, IMIG, Physics, Math, Colorado & 30th and Bear Creek.

When the weather outside is frightful...the bus is so delightful....let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. But remember snowy weather can cause road closures and bus reroutes. Review the Buff Bus Inclement Weather Reroute map for the Williams Village, and Marine Street Express Buff Bus reroutes. Situations may occur where administration must change bus reroutes to accommodate safe and accessible roads to/from main campus. RIDER ALERT:

  • Norlin Express runs only during finals week.

Norlin Express is continuous loop from Bear Creek Apartments/Williams Village to Colorado Avenue/18th Street (Norlin Library drop off/pick up location) every 20 minutes from midnight – 2:00 a.m.

Reduced/No Service

Certain areas become impassable during storms and construction and the Buff Bus may need to use alternative routes. Download the Transit app for alerts about delays due to traffic and weather. There will be certain times during the fall and spring semesters when the Buff Bus runs on a limited schedule or does not run at all. When limited service or no service will be provided, Transportation Services will keep you updated with the schedule via the Transit app.

No Service: All campus holidays and summer.

Reduced Service: Beginning of semesters, finals and campus closures.

Lost & Found

On the day you lost the item, you may check with any Buff Bus driver to see if the item has been turned in. Found items are turned into Transportation Services' main office at 3205 Marine St. at the end of each day. Call us at 303-492-7152. Found items will be kept for 30 days, after which all unclaimed items will be donated or discarded.
