This Week at the College of Music: Student Edition - Sept. 22, 2022

We’re looking forward to Singaporean pianist Margaret Leng Tan’s residency at the College of Music next week, including a free, public recital on Sept. 29 featuring the last completed composition by George Crumb (1929-2022), Metamorphoses, Book II. Celebrated paintings by such artists as Chagall, Klee, Picasso, van Gogh, O’Keeffe and Wyeth inspired each of the work’s 10 movements. Associate Professor of Music Theory Steven Bruns will introduce the performance and highlight the significance of Crumb’s long association with our College of Music.

• CU study on Pueblo’s cultural music has collected 27 oral histories so far: “Soundscapes of the People,” a collaboration between our American Music Research Center and Colorado State University Pueblo, has collected 27 oral histories in the past year exploring Pueblo’s cultural music history.

• The College of Music’s Diverse Musicians’ Alliance (DiMA) invites performers of music, dance, poetry, visual art/photography and other forms of art to participate in “Atlas”—an annual show featuring diverse voices, food and art forms, open to all genres and majors. “Atlas” will take place on Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Imig Music Building, S134A. Submit your proposal by Sept. 30!

• Through Nov. 4, cheer on the Buffs the night before each home game at the Pearl Street Stampedes. Join hundreds of Buffs fans on the 1300 block of Pearl Street as members of our Golden Buffalo Marching Band play!
