CU Boulder’s Grammy Award-winning Takács Quartet celebrates 50 years

• Alternative keyboard offers College of Music students greater reach: The College of Music has had an alternatively-sized keyboard on loan since April 2023. Recent graduate Abigail Terrill shares how the narrower keyboard is helpful, why it’s needed and what her thesis research found about the process of transitioning between pianos. 
• Platt Middle School students work with CU Boulder composer to create music (Daily Camera): Middle school students recently met Luka Vezmar, a College of Music junior, who is tasked with combining the band, orchestra and choir students’ suggestions into a single piece, which will premiere at a November school concert. Platt band director Caleb Starbuck started the composer program more than 15 years ago in partnership with our Professor of Composition Carter Pann.
• Tomorrow, Sept. 13, join us for our faculty + staff picnic—thanks to the College of Music Staff Council—at the Koenig Alumni Center, 4-6 p.m., featuring a delicious taco bar from Chipotle! 
• College of Music coffee hour: All students, faculty and staff are invited to join Dean Davis and members of our Music Advisory Board for coffee, juice, breakfast treats and community connection. Sept. 18, 8:30-10 a.m., Grusin Lobby. 
• 2024 Chancellor’s Employee of the Year Award: Nominations due by Sept. 30.

• Associate Professor Stephanie Bonjack—who heads our Howard B. Waltz Music Library—has developed “Music on the Front Range,” a guide and starting point for musicians seeking performing opportunities, composers looking for ensembles that commission new works, parents seeking music programs for their children and community members wanting to participate in music making. 
• Campus calendars + key dates (Office of the Registrar): At your fingertips, academic calendars by topic.
• Difficult Dialogue: “Election Year Polarization: Can we stay good neighbors?” On Sept. 16, explore how to stay connected with those we disagree with amid the polarized atmosphere of the upcoming presidential election.

• Feel Good Fridays: On Fridays, 12:15-12:45 p.m., join Matt Tomatz—embedded psychotherapist with our Musicians’ Wellness Program—to learn about a work of art followed by a related mindfulness practice. Reduce stress, enjoy a few moments of peace and calm, and reset your mind for a great weekend. All are welcome to this weekly, hybrid meditation series.
