This Week at the College of Music: Community Edition - Oct. 7, 2021

As part of our dean's vision to develop what he calls the "universal musician," the College of Music continually strives to revise and refine its programming and activities to ensure a flexible, well-rounded education and experiences that prepare our students for varied, non-traditional careers. Take Ingrid Anderson, who's double majoring in violin performance and neuroscience: The College of Music senior and president of the College of Music Student Government expects to graduate in May 2022 and ultimately plans to pursue a career in medicine … along the way, she's "playing violin whenever I can!" • The Museum of Boulder has partnered with the College of Music to create a pop-up exhibit exploring the history of the college's first 100 years. The exhibit, "Music Buffs: A Century of Music at CU," also features the stories of some of our most iconic music venues on campus, as well as famous CU alumni. The exhibit opens to the public today, Oct. 7, with an opening reception on Saturday, Oct. 16 (register here); the exhibit runs through Nov. 28.
• On Oct. 11, our American Music Research Center (AMRC) presents “A community without a band, is a community without a soul”: Join us for this free, public talk with Dr. Xóchitl C. Chávez (University of California, Riverside) as part of our 2021-2022 Musicology and Music Theory Colloquium Series.
• On Oct. 15, the AMRC presents “Borders/Boundaries/Fronteras: Rethinking American Music”: Join us in person or via Zoom for this free symposium bringing together leading scholars in American music studies to explore the ways that borders—whether geographic, political, social, sonic, performative or temporal—impact music, music making, musical reception and musical meaning.
• World Singing Day is Oct. 16 and you can join in! This year’s song is “Here Comes the Sun.”

• Stay informed about COVID-19 protocols on campus. Masks are required in public indoor spaces on the CU Boulder campus, regardless of vaccination status; masking also applies to community members attending in-person indoor events on campus.
