ECEA 5350 Wind Turbine Sensors
2nd course in the Sensors for a Carbon Free World Specialization
Instructors: Jay Mendelson, MSME, Lecturer
You will learn about how wind turbines generate and transmit power to the AC grid. We then explain the major power generation components of wind turbines, and how sensors enable condition monitoring of all components. We reference all the sensors that are used for system monitoring. Then we do a deep dive into how each of these sensors work.
There is no lab work in this course, so you will not need to buy any components.
Prior knowledge needed: ECEA 5349 Electric Vehicle Sensors
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the electromechanical energy generation and transmission systems used in wind turbines
- Understand how wind turbines are built and where sensors provide continuous monitoring of performance
- Specify the correct sensor for a wind turbine application
